How to Plan Your Social Media Strategy

When beginning your journey on social media, it can be difficult to understand what to post, when to post, and how you should engage with your audience, among other things. Here are the basic’s you need to know to get a plan together for your social media strategy.

Know your social media’s purpose.

Before you think about the content you are going to create, you need to know what you want to achieve on social media and what is the purpose of your brand being on social media.

Whether it’s to increase brand awareness, increase conversions, gain customer feedback, or for another motive, knowing what you want to achieve will help to shape your overall social media plan and strategy.

Set Goals

The next thing you need to do is set goals. This will not only help you to see whether the plan you are implementing is working or not, but it gives you a target to achieve which will lead you on your way to being successful in your overall plan.

If your plan is to use social media to increase brand awareness, your goal could be to increase your following by 1,000 followers in two months whilst maintaining an 8% engagement rate. Setting goals is a great way to keep on track with your plan.

Know your target audience

Setting goals and creating a plan will all be to waste if you do not have an understanding of who your target audience is. If you are targeting the wrong audience who have no interest in your products or service or the brand you promote, that isn’t going to ultimately lead to an increased ROI through social media.

Understand your audience and who is going to be interested in what you have to offer. This way, you can tailor your content and brand to suit and interest the audience which is most likely to purchase.

Analyse

Constantly analyse your social media plan. What is working? What isn’t working? How can I improve this? How can I maintain this? These are some of the questions you need to be asking yourself constantly when it comes to your social media plan.

Doing this, you will be able to learn from trial and error, and constantly improve your plan to be as successful as possible. Leaving your plan and not learning from the data and information your social media performances are giving you will mean you will struggle to grow your business on social media.
