Why you should analyse your competition
One thing that many entrepreneurs and business owners forget to do is analyse their competition. It may not seem important, but seeing what your competition is doing well and not so well can be key to taking your business to the next level. Here’s why you should be analysing your competition.
Ideas and inspiration
Analysing your competition can give you ideas and inspiration for what you can implement in your own business. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to copy your competition, you can use your competition as inspiration for your own ideas or to improve on their ideas.
If you do not look at what your competition is doing well and at least acknowledge it, your business will fall behind and you’ll fail to keep up with your competition, so it’s really important that you're in the know with the trends your competition are adopting well.
Avoiding mistakes
One of the best things about analysing your competition is that you can avoid making mistakes. If you have an idea for your business but you’re not sure that it will work, you can look at whether any of your competitors have tried something similar for their business and how it worked out for them.
Looking at your competition, you can see whether your idea was successful or not with their customers, what they did well and not so well, and how you can learn from their mistakes. This way, instead of you making mistakes, you can learn how to avoid them from your competition.
Being in the buyer's shoes
Looking at your competition, you’ll be able to put yourself into the buyers shoes. This way, you can see an idea or marketing technique from the customers perspective, and how the customer may act based on the business's marketing.
With an understanding of the customer when faced with this form of marketing you can analyse whether the marketing implemented by your competition would work for your business, and what you should do differently in order to gain more customers.
